We invite the community to join us on Monday, May 6th for a Yom HaShoah ceremony and exhibit.
This year, the IAC Shepher Community Center will be holding an additional event in a separate hall, showcasing a special exhibit in honor
of the survivors of the Holocaust: the Kindertransport children.
The exhibit will be open before and after the Yom HaShoah ceremony.
For this evening’s speaker, we are honored to introduce Harry Davids, a Child Survivor of the Holocaust born in 1942 to German Jewish parents in the Netherlands.
With the deportation of Dutch Jews escalating with no hope of ending, Harry’s parents made the difficult choice to give him up at only 10 days old
in hopes that the Dutch Resistance would place him somewhere safe.
Hidden in plain sight and raised by a Protestant Dutch family, baby Harry survived due to the kindness of Berend and Jeltje Bakker,
having spent three years working to have them added to the list of the Righteous Among the Nations at Yad Vashem.
When Harry learned of the attacks on October 7th, his immediate thoughts went to his extended Israeli cousins, who lived in Kibbutz Beeri.
Registration is required.
The event will be done in English.
The event will be free of cost, as this is an educational event open to the public.
Students in middle school and higher are encouraged to attend.
